Terms and Conditions

Last updated: September 24, 2026

These terms govern your use of PeerQube (the "Service"), a marketplace that connects York University students seeking tutoring with fellow students offering it. By creating an account, you agree to these terms. PeerQube is an independent service and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by York University.

Eligibility

The Service is intended for current York University students with a valid York email address. You must be at least the age of majority in Ontario, or have the consent of a parent or guardian, to create an account.

What PeerQube is, and isn't

PeerQube facilitates connections between students and tutors and processes payment between them; it does not itself provide tutoring services. Tutors are independent individuals, not PeerQube employees or agents. We take reasonable steps to vet tutors: an applicant states their grade for each course and then confirms it in a live video interview with an admin, sharing their screen to show their official York Degree Progress Report. That is a human visual check, not a data feed from York University, and we do not guarantee the accuracy of a tutor's qualifications, the quality of any session, or any particular academic outcome.

Accounts

You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for activity that happens under your account. Tell us right away if you believe your account has been compromised.

Bookings, fees, and payment

When a student books a session, payment is collected in full through our payment processor, Stripe, at the time of booking. A student pays the tutor's listed hourly rate for the length of the session booked, and nothing more; PeerQube charges the student no separate fee. PeerQube deducts a platform fee of 3% of the amount charged from the tutor's earnings, and the tutor receives the amount charged less that fee and less the processing fee Stripe itself charges to handle the payment, paid out after the session and subject to a holding period that allows time for a report to be filed and reviewed. Tutors are paid out to their own bank account via Stripe Connect, on a schedule Stripe manages. The platform fee exists to cover the cost of running the Service, such as hosting, payment processing, and email. PeerQube is not operated for profit. The fee applied to a booking is the fee in effect when that booking was made; we may change it for future bookings.

Cancellations and refunds

Either party can cancel a confirmed booking up to 24 hours before the scheduled session, for a full refund to the student. Cancellations inside that 24-hour window are not permitted through the Service; if a tutor fails to attend a session that wasn't cancelled in advance, the student may file a no-show report as described below.

Our full Cancellation and Refund Policy sets out the complete terms, including the deadline for filing a report about a session and how a report affects payment. It forms part of these terms.

Reports, conduct, and account standing

Either party to a booking may report the other for conduct such as a no-show, inappropriate behaviour, or (for tutors reporting a student) unauthorized sharing of paid course materials off-platform. We may request evidence, including a session recording, to help review a report. Depending on the outcome of that review, we may issue a warning, a strike, a temporary suspension, or a permanent ban, and may approve a refund to an affected student, at our discretion.

Attempting to arrange payment or communication outside the Service is not permitted. Doing so means neither side has access to PeerQube's report, refund, and dispute-resolution protections if something goes wrong.

Messages

Messages sent through the Service between a student and a tutor may be reviewed by PeerQube admins for safety, moderation, and dispute-review purposes, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. PeerQube is not responsible for the conduct of any student or tutor, on or off the platform, or for the outcome of any tutoring session. To the fullest extent permitted by law, PeerQube's liability arising from your use of the Service is limited to the amount of fees you paid to PeerQube in the 3 months before the claim arose. For a student that amount is ordinarily nil, as students pay no fee to PeerQube; for a tutor it is the total of the 3% platform fees deducted from their payouts over that period.

Termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account for violating these terms, including the conduct described above.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
